Common Questions
Is listing really free?
Yes. Creating an account and listing inventory costs nothing. You only pay if a buyer purchases through Stripe on your store page. Phone orders, in-person sales, and any deal you close off-platform are always free.
What does Stripe charge on top of Tool Pile's 2%?
Stripe charges their standard processing fee — typically 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction. So on a $500 sale processed through Stripe, Tool Pile takes $10 and Stripe takes roughly $14.80. You keep the rest.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. You can upgrade from Free Catalog to Seller by connecting a Stripe account at any time. Dealer status requires an application and is billed monthly — cancel anytime.
Do I need a website to sell on Tool Pile?
No. Your Tool Pile store page is your online presence. You get a permanent URL at toolpile.com/stores/[your-shop] that you can share with customers, put on business cards, and link from social media.
What can I sell?
New and used trade equipment, tools, machinery, and supply inventory. Tool Pile is built for contractors, dealers, and trade supply businesses in NY, NJ, and CT. All listings are reviewed before going live.
How long does dealer approval take?
Most applications are reviewed within 1–2 business days. We manually verify every dealer — that's what keeps the directory trustworthy.
